Ontario Mosaic Artists have literally “put the pieces back together” with this one-of-a-kind collaborative mosaic to raise funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign in memory of Jean Loney, a mosaic artist from Fergus, Ontario. Jean was both an active SLF volunteer and founding member of the campaign.
“The Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign was launched in 2006, as an initiative of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, in response to the emerging crisis faced by grandmothers in Africa. Since 2006, more than $40 million has been raised in support of grandmothers and the community-based organizations who support them in sub-Saharan Africa. In the face of discrimination based on gender, age, and HIV status, they are courageous advocates for their families and communities.”
Designed and “pieced together” by Angele Blasutti, the mosaic is made up of 33 smaller mosaic pieces created by 17 artists from across Ontario who participated in Ontario Mosaic Artists “Putting the Pieces Back Together” exhibition. Each artist donated their unique contributions to the project.
On October 30th, the 2nd Ontario Mosaic Artists group exhibition was quietly packed up, and the auction for the Stephen Lewis Foundation came to a close. We are very proud to say that we raised $1100 for the campaign.
A special thank you and congratulations to Cathy Callaghan for having the winning bid!!
