Ontario Mosaic Artists was formed as a non-profit collective in 2020 by a group of friends – Amanda Stapells, Angèle Blasutti, Elena Martoglio, Mehtap Mertdogan, Patrizia Brasch and Valerie McGarry – all like-minded mosaic artists from Ontario, who share the passion of creating mosaic art. Dedicated to preserving this ancient art form, we challenge its traditional boundaries by creating contemporary fine art mosaics in our own distinctive styles. Ontario Mosaic Artists’ purpose is to host exhibitions of the artwork done by mosaic artists from all over Ontario in order to promote mosaics as a contemporary art form and to showcase the array of materials, styles, techniques, mediums, and dimensions used by contemporary mosaic artists to put a modern spin on the ancient art form.
In 2021, we held our first exhibition – Andamento: Re-inventing the Ancient Mosaic Flow in a Contemporary Style – at the Leslie Grove Gallery in Toronto, and it was a roaring success!
This year, OMA’s second exhibition – Putting the Pieces Back Together – will again take place at the Leslie Grove Gallery, from October 5 – October 30, 2022.
Moving forward, Ontario Mosaic Artists plans to have exhibitions hosted by other cities in Ontario in order to spread the word.
