Ontario Mosaic Artists was formed as a non-profit collective in 2020 by a group of friends – Amanda Stapells, Angèle Blasutti, Elena Martoglio, Mehtap Mertdogan, Patrizia Brasch and Valerie McGarry – all like-minded mosaic artists from Ontario who share the passion of creating mosaic art. Dedicated to preserving this ancient art form, we challenge its traditional boundaries by creating contemporary fine art mosaics in our own distinctive styles.
Ontario Mosaic Artists’ purpose is to host exhibitions of the artwork done by mosaic artists from all over Ontario in order to promote mosaics as a contemporary art form and to showcase the array of materials, styles, techniques, mediums, and dimensions used to put a modern spin on the ancient art form.
OMA’s exhibitions, to which artists are invited to participate, are held every two years. From a list of potential participants, artists’ mosaics are juried, by all members of the upcoming exhibit’s organizing committee, on the quality of their work based on the following criteria: originality, technique, and composition. Juried artists are then invited to take part in the upcoming exhibition.
To-date, OMA has held three hugely successful exhibitions at the Leslie Grove Gallery in Toronto.
Andamento: Re-inventing the Ancient Mosaic Flow in a Contemporary Style, which ran from August 25th to September 12th, 2021.
Putting the Pieces Back Together, from October 5th – October 30th, 2022.
Reflections, from November 13th – December 1st, 2024
